Are you an incoming international student at Indiana University-Bloomington? Bloomington International Student Ministries (BISM) is here to ensure your transition to your new academic and cultural environment is as smooth as possible. We’re thrilled to announce the return of our annual Weeks of Welcome (WOW) program, tailored specifically for international students like you. This blog post outlines two fantastic, free services provided by BISM during WOW: Airport Pickup and the International Furniture Give-Away.
Airport Pickup Service ( Pickup Dates and Times will be announced in July):
Traveling to a new country can be daunting, but BISM is ready to make your arrival stress-free with our complimentary Airport Pickup service. During the first two weeks of August, our dedicated BISM staff and volunteers will greet you at the Indianapolis Airport (IND). You’ll find us at the baggage claim area, ready to welcome you with two pickup times daily at 3:00 PM and 11:00 PM. We provide transportation directly to the IU campus, nearby off-campus apartments, or local Bloomington hotels based on your accommodation plans.
International Furniture Give-Away(August 20, 2024 – August 24, 2024):
Setting up your new home shouldn’t be a hassle. That’s why BISM is proud to host our International Furniture Give-Away. This event, now in its 19th year, has helped over 300 international students annually to furnish their new homes at no cost. Join us in mid-August to select from a wide range of free furniture and household items, including beds (twin, double, queen), desks, chairs, sofas, bookshelves, and dining tables.
WOW and Beyond:
Beyond these services, the Weeks of Welcome(WOW) includes various activities designed to help you connect with other students and familiarize yourself with the area. Participate in a Walmart shopping trip, join a hiking excursion, or enjoy an apple-picking adventure—perfect opportunities to make new friends and create lasting memories.
